Dewangi Sharma (She/Her)

Research Associate, Centre for Justice, Law and Society

 

Dewangi is a lawyer and researcher committed to advancing access to justice and human rights. Before joining CJLS, she spent two years with the Centre for Social Justice (CSJ) working closely with young social justice lawyers and paralegals in Chhattisgarh to increase access to justice for vulnerable communities. Her work encompassed a broad spectrum of issues, including gender- and caste-based violence, access to abortion services, custodial abuse, labour rights, and victim compensation. 

Dewangi holds a law degree from ILS Law College, Pune (Class of 2023). During her time as a law student, she was a Research Assistant at CJLS, contributing to projects focused on gender diversity in the higher judiciary in India.

She is passionate about promoting social justice through rigorous research, legislative and policy analysis, strategic advocacy, and community empowerment.

CJLS’s meaningful collaboration with grassroots organisations, civil society and scholars has helped facilitate important legal interventions especially in the domain of gender, health, sexuality, critical pedagogy among others . The Centre adopts a holistic approach by rigorously combines research, bottoms up advocacy, and thoughtful legal aid. It has played a pivotal role in facilitating legal intervention and curating a space for critical legal thought for young students and lawyers.
