Dewangi (She/Her)
Research Associate, Centre for Justice, Law and Society (2025-2026)
Dewangi worked as a Research Associate with CJLS between 2025-2026. She is a lawyer and researcher committed to advancing access to justice and human rights. During her time at CJLS, Dewangi contributed to the research on access to justice for dalit women in Punjab, impact of medical boards and criminal provisions on access to abortion services, and question of transgender rights. She also supported litigation efforts on issues of reproductive and transgender rights.
Before joining CJLS, she spent two years with the Centre for Social Justice (CSJ) working closely with young social justice lawyers and paralegals in Chhattisgarh to increase access to justice for vulnerable communities. Her work encompassed a broad spectrum of issues, including gender- and caste-based violence, access to abortion services, custodial abuse, labour rights, and victim compensation.
Dewangi holds a law degree from ILS Law College, Pune (Class of 2023). During her time as a law student, she was a Research Assistant at CJLS, contributing to projects focused on gender diversity in the higher judiciary in India.
She is passionate about promoting social justice through rigorous research, legislative and policy analysis, strategic advocacy, and community empowerment.
